Sheriff, my life-love doggie, passed on the evening of Dec....

Sheriff, my life-love doggie, passed on the evening of Dec. 29th. He lived 15 ½ years. He was one tough little dude. In the end, he had heart disease, a collapsing trachea and a rather large tumor on his spleen which made him walk with his hind legs thrust at an angle, like a shopping cart with a busted wheel. He also suffered from severe arthritis, was going deaf and blind and had lost many teeth. He was never an accessory dog. He was not a teacup. He was a legit full-sized chi (well, maybe with some terrier mixed in) from East LA and he looked like a miniature German Shepherd so we gave him the name Sheriff to match his attitude. He was fearless. He was confident. He was my bodyguard. Chihuahuas generally bond with only one lucky human and this chi bonded with ME. When we brought him home, it was another time, Casbah Cafe/ElConquistador/VideoJourneys-era Silverlake. Everybody in the Junction knew him and loved him, but he only had eyes for me. He was my first baby and I remember the exact moment we bonded.

So, yeah … this is my NYE post. I’ve not been able to look at Sheriff’s pictures until now without losing it. And I’m celebrating right along with you but I’m celebrating this little superhero of a canine as well. ❤️Sheriff, I’m not, nor was I ever, deserving of your love and your devotion. You have a bigger heart than any human I know. I love you and I miss your sweet sighs.❤️
